Christopher Putnam, FAGO, is Canon for Music at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, CA. He directs the choir of men and boys as well as the mixed-voice Cathedral Singers (founded under his direction in 1995). He appears as accompanist for the choir of men and boys for three recordings on the Gothic label. Mr. Putnam also oversees the cathedral's extensive series of major concerts and the series of post-evensong organ recitals.

He has appeared with the San Francisco Symphony and Chorus under the batons of Michael Tilson Thomas and Vance George and continues as an associate organist of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor. He is well known in the Bay Area as an accompanist of such silent motion pictures as The Phantom of the Opera, The Ten Commandments, and Metropolis. His repertoire is extensive, and his varied recital programs range from all-Bach to an organ transcription of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition to improvisation.

He previously held positions at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, San Diego; and All Saints' Parish, Beverly Hills. Besides his position at Grace Cathedral, he is Lecturer in Organ at the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, CA.

A native of San Diego, CA, Christopher Putnam is a graduate of the University of Redlands. His teachers have included Edgar Billups, Samuel John Swartz, Audrey Jacobsen, and Leslie P. Spelman.
