James Welch is the University Organist and a lecturer in the music department of Santa Clara University. Founded in 1851, Santa Clara is California's oldest college. In addition, Dr. Welch serves as organist and director of the concert series at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Palo Alto. He has served as Dean of the Santa Barbara and Palo Alto chapters of the American Guild of Organists.

Dr. Welch continues his active recital and lecture career around the world. A specialist in organ music of Latin America, he has appeared as a solo recitalist and lecturer at the Conference of Latin American Organists and Organ Builders in São Paulo and Porto Alegre, Brazil. His three edited volumes of organ music by Mexican composers are published by Vivace Press.

Recent performances include recitals on the Kotzschmar Organ in Portland, Maine; the AGO Region IX Convention in Sacramento; and the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. He also gave recitals and workshops at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton, Ohio and for AGO chapters in Ogden, Utah and Santa Rosa, California.

Dr. Welch has released several new compact discs: Around the World in Under 80 Minutes, recorded at St. Elizabeth Church in San Francisco; Instrument of Peace, recorded at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in San Francisco; Instrument of Wonder, a Christmas recording made at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Oakland, California; and a recording on the organ of St. Nikolaikirche in Berlin-Spandau, built by the Eule Organ Company of Bautzen, Germany.

Dr. Welch is available for a wide range of recitals and workshops. These include lecture/recitals on Canadian and Latin American organ music; a lecture entitled "The Ste. Clotilde Tradition"; and a "Genealogical Recital" tracing his tutorial lineage to J.S. Bach.
